No Tires No Bike
If your E-bike has the wrong tires you have a major problem. Tire selection has a huge impact on how your bike handles and rides. Speed, range, maneuverability. suspension, and bike safety are all effected by your bike tires. E-bike tires are different from conventional bike tires because E-bikes are heavier than conventional bikes and operate at higher speeds. Generally, changing a tire on an E-bike is more difficult.
You should be concerned about Safety, Grip, Stability, Puncture Protection, Breaking Power, Low Rolling Resistance, and the ability to Safely Corner, and Travel Uphill. E-bike tires are slightly wider than conventional bike tires. Because you are operating with higher weights and at higher speeds puncture protect is very import.
When you select your tires, you should match the tire to the type of terrain you will be riding on. Will you be riding on-road or off-road? If your riding on-road, with
asphalt and concrete surfaces, a Commuter type tire is best. Off-road surfaces require a BMX type tire.
The size of your tire is important. A wider tire will give you more cushion and a more comfortable ride. However, wider tires also reduce speed and
range. The narrower tire presents a smaller contact surface and provides the capability of higher speeds.
Tires are specified by inflated width -the distance from sidewall to sidewall (the tread width), inflated diameter - how big the tire is around the outside of the tire, and
maximum pressure. With a wider tire you can increase your range by increasing tire pressure (reduces the contact patch).
